All of the Cape Town and surrounding area Hot Spots

Monday was the Big trip to hit all of the touristy things in Cape Town. Camps Bay neighborhood. Ate dinner there last night and it was everyone showing off their wealth in their cars or on their backs. Stopped at a lookout to see it from another side.

Then, to a boat trip out to see the seals. That was insane. Our 8 plus about 100 obnoxious South Asian guys who all had to get pics of each other doing "Titanic" at the bow of the boat.🤦‍♀️ Oh and then a tour group of Chinese folks had to get in on the act. I managed to get a couple of pics of seals.

Next on the way to Cape of Good Hope we drove by an Ostrich Farm and a few miles down the road saw a wild one! And the Elands just grazing along the road! They have lots of problems with baboons in this area but we didn't see any.

Arrived at Cape of Good Hope and did the requisite Pic with sign. Some people get real upset if you don't get in and out of there so they can have their moment!

Next, to the other point Cape Point. You can take funicular up to lighthouse but I opted for shopping and a seafood lunch looking out at the ocean.

Finally, headed back to town and stopped at Bo Kaap neighborhood. This area was built by the Dutch to house their enslaved people. These were mainly Indonesian and Malaysian people. The Dutch mandated the houses to be white. Then, the Brits conquered the Dutch, freed the enslaved people, and gave them the houses. So the now free people decided to colorfully paint their homes. The color is based on a code of what type of work they did. If you needed shoes made go to blue house, etc. Long day but all around great tour! I have to decide between bed or dinner.

This guy was selling his paintings. He would not get out of my shot. Later, 3 countries later, I saw the same paintings for sale. Hmmm...

On the boat heading for False Bay Seal Island

The seals come up on shore to get easy food. Learned behavior from transients who feed them. Then they get tourists to pay for pics or to pet the seals. Sad.

How it works...

Leaving the dock with a boatful....

On the way to Seal Island...

Almost there...

And this is when I realized it really was a boat full. Everyone came out of nowhere to the front.

Took awhile but found a break in the horde

Seals...you can smell them before you can see them.

And the gorgeous blue water...

Basking in the sun

On the road heading South

Views on the way to...

Noordhoek Farm Village. A little town with cafés, bakery, boutique hotel, communal farm, pub, galleries, and markets. Great place to stop for coffee break.

One of Noordhoek's cafés...and more mountains

Back on the road ....

Glimpse of lighthouse WAAAY off in the distance

Ostrich Farm drive by

One young female came to the fence

Several miles down the road a wild Ostrich just hanging out

Then more wildlife...Elands

Our guide got us to the Cape of Good Hope!

Some chose to hike up the hill and on to our next location....

But ended up turning around as a flock/troop of Ostriches were blocking the trail and would not give way.

Officially made it! It was very windy out there.

Cape Point, the other Southern point of the African continent

The hiking trail to lighthouse.

This is line for the funicular to lighthouse. I noticed the guy in the mint green shirt. He reminded me of Kim Jong Un.....

Yep, those are security guards staring me down. Oops International incident...I was just taking a pic of the baboon statue.

More trails. Lots of people, restaurants, shop.

Another view before lunch

Fish and chips, of course

The entrance to the Company's Garden, an urban park in Cape Town.  This is where the ships from Europe for the Dutch East India Company would stock up on produce before heading back. It is now a lovely park were people walk, bird watch, feed squirrels, and have picnics.

Another view of the pergola entrance.

The brightly painted homes and shops of Bo Kaap neighborhood.

I opted to view from vehicle because knee had had enough.

And to top off the day...toastie cheese and chips at the hotel.
